Wolverine Game Developer Wants to Make Deadpool Game

UGO has a new interview with the developer of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game, where they discuss the developers hopes of making a Deadpool video game based on the comicbook version.
"That's very easy, that'd be Deadpool. We're huge fans of Deadpool. When we made X-Men 2, we made sure to put Deadpool in there and give him plenty of little Easter eggs and conversations. We love the character. His smartass attitude. So that'd be the guy we'd probably go after."

Thanks to Erik and everyone else who sent in this tip. [SOURCE]

That would be awesome but i havent updated to a new system yet so i hope they would make it for a ps2!

Even if it was just a GTA rip-off, just with Deadpool doing all the missions, I'd be happy. I mean he's perfect for that type of game, he's a merc. C'mon make it.

Actually I wonder what sorta platform they'd set it up for Deadpool. It's not as if you can have him running around collecting gold coins and whatnot, and the GTA clone would be interesting but I'm not sure that'd fit.

Wonder how it'll turn out if they make it...

I think it would be slightly more like hitman. You don't choose jobs, you get them assigned as it goes along with the story.
Also, you take the healing-factor aspect from one of wolverine's games, replace whatever spiffy combos he had with sword combos, throw in a sizable and varied arsenal of guns, a few explosives, and a funny quip everytime he does something, and there you have it.

Not the Person Everyone Hates. said...

1.)they need to have him talking to everyone during the game enen the people playing .

2.)they need to hve it to you can have healing factor turned on fully all the time(deadpool as we know heals way faster than wolvrine.)

3.)he needs all of his costumes.thor,x men(even the marvel girl one), carnage, origional(new mutants 98),ultimate(yes i know he is not that great in ultimate but his costume is awsome),Ryan Renalds Wade Wilson, age of apocolipse (dead man wade), weapon x(comic series not movie), and all the others done by different artists.

4.) it needs to be made for the Wii or the PS2.Please?

5.) he needs to be able to kill Weapon XI...

6.)he needs to be more agile. like be able to jump around like he did in the movie.

@ Ericon IX

Actually I could kinda see the Hitman aspect. Multiple ways to pull off a hit, etc. Do you go run and gun, or do you fire a rocket from a robotic sheep? Drop in from a helicopter, or teleport in and make things explode while leaping around.

I would like and adventure kind of game , with guns etc..
Not another shooter.

Daniel said...

And Rocket Launching sheep.

Here I was just coming over to see if you'd gotten this news yet. :) But of course you get all the news first, as it should be! Heh.

I SO hope this happens.

An action based Deadpool game with more than 2 hours of gameplay. Multiple costumes, maybe secret characters/cameos: Bob, Agent X, Outlaw, Taskmaster, etc.

I just hope they don't do another game with the X-Men Legends system. After both X-Men Legends and then Ultimate Alliance... meh.

Blastback said...

"And Rocket Launching sheep."
For this, you win like 10,000 points man. I love that issue.

Daniel said...

@ Blastback

Tell me you wouldn't love a Deadpool game where you upgrade your weaponry, and one thing you set up a rocket launcher that's sheep shaped.

Hell I'd love a Trophy/Achievement for using it:

"Sheep Shaped Shot Succeeded"

Blastback said...

Oh man that would be just stinking perfect. I want so much right now. It would need apperances by Taskmaster and Siryn and co. Heck, coop could be either Tasky or Agent X.

Daniel said...

@ Blastback

Eh, I dunno. I'd rather have a Wade stand alone game.

I still think a Hitman style setup would be perfect. Multiple ways to go nuts and achieve the objective. And it wouldn't have to just be assassinations.

I'd love the idea of radioing up Weasel and getting more tech/weaponry.

Timed missions where you compete *against* Agency X to get a job done.

And a button like in the second to last Evil Dead game:

Triangle button activated speaking. Just random one liners. There would be such a need for a button in a Deadpool game.

not making this video game would be a sin against humanity, maybe movie if some story teller guy could pull it off good

It'll probably be the same sort of gaameplay as the Wolverine game, only you use swords and guns instead.

Because, what the heck, I feel like being the negative voice among many before I head off to work...

This won't happen unless they release a Deadpool movie. Games are tricky things to get developed. What with all the hostile takeovers going on now - buying out and merging and EA swallowing poor little unsuspecting companies whole - risk-taking title are getting published less than ever.

Heck, even the Ghostbusters game got dropped twice. If people aren't sure Ghostbusters is marketable, I see zero confidence in publishers with an idea like this.

MAYBE, if the developers are extremely adamant about getting it out there, (while pouring copious amounts of their own money into the project) it might show up for download like the Watchmen game.

But, what the heck, I can dream too. I'm picturing something that's equal parts Devil May Cry and Metal Gear... with waaay bigger guns.

Daniel said...

@ Penny Dreadful

Yeah the likelyhood is pretty much non-existent, but it's still fun to decide what we want in the video game.

Metal Gear though? I can't see Wade being sneaky. He's gotta teleporter, no need to be sneaky.

Though him in a cardboard box would be amusing... I can hear him shout random things from it...

Celldweller Zi said...

If they just re-do Devil May Cry 3 but replace Dante with Deadpool and more one liners it'd be Game of the Year.

Daniel said...

@ Celldweller Zi

Except for the demons, the forced plot twists and an environment that doesn't fit Deadpool at all.

Dani B said...

The beautiful thing is, if they go ahead with this game and do it faithfully they're more likely to do a Deadpool movie that stays true to the character. By reintroducing him to the non-comic fan public as he should be, they won't have to justify why he's nothing like he is in the movie.
PS: I loathe Weapon XI. I won't call him Deadpool. That wasn't really relevant but I don't feel right talking about it now without throwing that in there :D

Penny Dreadful said...

@Daniel

Obviously, you haven't seen the way I play Metal Gear XD. Seriously though, just the randomness and pacing of that series - You go from playing out a dream sequence to piloting giant robots to pulling slick Chuck Norris moves on top of buildings/ships/hangar elevators. Plus, I was thinking infiltration and the way you handle guns in that game. And, yeah, I was totally thinking cardboard box.

But, I completely realize Deadpool would sooner run in, guns blazing so I tossed DMC in there too. I.E. take the two of those and maybe add in some sort of level/customization system AND Deadpool... you have my dream game.

Matt said...

I for one would just have to say that a Deadpool game may in fact complete me lol. Seriously, a GTA/Hitman style game where its open world but all the missions are assasinations, complete with upgradable weapons (sheep rocket launcher is a must) one liners galore, all the costumes he has had over the years? That would be game of the year hands down. Also, an interesting question since were hitting on the one liners so much, who would you all rather do the voice for Deadpool in that game? Ryan Reynolds, or Nolan North, the guy who voiced DP in Hulk vs Wolverine?

@ Dani B

You are spot on with that theory about a future true to the source material movie. It would get the gaming circles interested in Deadpool more so than they already are (to some extent)

Has anyone here ever played that old game "Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict"?

I always loved the way they had fused the melee combat and first person shooter combat together so you could switch back and forth. I think that would lend itself well to Deadpool as he's both a swordsman AND a marksman.

Celldweller Zi said...

With all due respect to Ryan, Nolan North has Deadpool's voice perfect. Ryan's a great actor though.

^If your saying that a Deadpool game should be a first person shooter... then no. Hell no.

Ericon IX said...

The way I picture a DP game:
It has a fixed story line. You don't pick missions, you don't have an explorable HQ, and you can't walk down the street and buy some stuff.
The game tosses you into a level and gives you an objective. Assassinations and demolition and theft at first, then a main antagonist rears his head. The the second half is less stealth and planning and more run in, guns blazing.

I can't imagine him having teleportation or the image inducer. He might, but I doubt it.

He'll have high-jumps and backflips like Dante. Double katana and double pistols with a few grenades and C4 are default weapons. Then, as the series goes, you pick up sniper rifles, submachine guns, hi-powered machineguns, RPGs, shurikens, and various grades of energy blasters. Maybe the sheep rocket launcher as a secret unlockable.

Secret costumes: various Deadpool through the ages costumes. Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson. Weapon XI (You know they'll put that one in, with the arm blades in place of swords). And Agent X. I don't think Tasky would be an alternate costume, since he isn't a major character in DP's series.

Anonymous said...

No offense to Ryan and Nolan, but what about John Kassir, the dude who voiced him in X-Men Legends 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. I always thought he was an awesome Deadpool. Nolan would be a close second

Mmmh...
I don't know why but i see more of a God of War mixed with Gears of War (for all the shooting... lots and lots of bullets... aaah bullets!) kind of game.
A big "barge-in-slay-tons-of-minions-before-offing-the-big-evil-kahuna-with-an-insane-pan" seems to be just what the doctor would recommend for psycho merc'...

if any of you played the new wolverine game it was cool if raven software goes somewhere along those line with real-time regenration, caping mofos, slashing heads off, and teleporting. throw in a cool ass storyline and badass cinematics like they did for wolverine. it sure would be a kickass game. certainly these guys would not do deadpool wrong i hope, they've done good jobs with the other marvel games i'd have no worries from them.

Anonymous said...

i hope that after hearing about the deadpool film raven software decide to make a tie in game

the unlockable costumes could be weapon 11 wade wilson and classic deadpool

I think if they made a Deadpool video game, it would definitley need a few things.

1) I say in-between missions, you should be able to waltz around a "Dead Hut" (who remembers his HQ/squat from '97? Not that it would have to be that).

2) Include a suppourting cast made up of Weasel and Bob...maybe even huck Blind Al and her dog in there. Oh, and Copy Cat who would be there just to step on his toes once in a while. Have a Wolverine Cameo. Hell, let's throw Killbrew in there while we're at it.

3) The last dude should either be Ajax. No T-Ray, for the love of Zeus no T-Ray. I hate T-Ray. He's so damned corny and ridiculous. It's like "I'm your exact oppisite Deadpool, except for the whole weird black magic shtick".

Ajax really deserved that title as the other side of the coin because he was the Sabretooth to 'Pool's Wolverine. They had an axe to grind with each other that you could actually wrap your brain around after reading once (unlike T-Ray) And he didn't wear dopey purple gloves or big-ass band aids on his nose. I mean, seriously.

3) Buuut, Ajax is dead. Hell, it's a game and like they did with the first two, decent Spider Man movies and make it accessable to both the fans as well as newcomers to the franchise...which there will be now, despite the shit-sandwich we all had to eat on May 1st it did spark everyone's interest in Dead Pool. Comic sales went through the roof recently, it might have something to do with Ryan Reynolds going all sweaty-palmed fanboy freak about Dead Pool during interviews.

4) PLEASE do not rip off God of War's gameplay again. They do it for every game that they can't figure out what it should play like. I would say use Devil May Cry as a foundation, except don't go overboard with it and have it to the point where Deadpool moves like an anime character on speed.
Keep it bloody, but at the same time really cartoony. Like Afro Samurai's video game. Except minus the suck.

5) A big-ass aresanal. 'Nuff said. Pulls out huge guns like a cartoon character.

6) Side mission selections, like in No More Heroes. "Take out my boss" assasination runs and make it totally weird. Flashback to department K missions. Etc.

7) LOTS of jokes. Get a demented writer in there, like the guy who writes the Venture Brothers would be my top pick.
